Dear Colleague,

At the beginning of this new year, I am pleased to send you the electronic version of the official EFMC Yearbook 2017, "Medicinal Chemistry in Europe", which represents a valuable instrument in order to quickly find information related to the activities and composition of EFMC and its Member Societies.
I would like to invite you to have a look at the EFMC Yearbook 2017, to find out more on our framework and on EFMC's activities in 2017. Flip through the book, or download the PDF, or scroll through the list of most important chapters of the Yearbook available below.
EFMC Composition and Objectives

Call for Nominations EFMC Prizes
EFMC established the "EFMC Prize for a Young Medicinal Chemist in Academia" and the "EFMC Prize for a Young Medicinal Chemist in Industry" to acknowledge the scientific accomplishments of young medicinal chemists. Deadline for application / nomination is January 31, 2017.

13th EFMC Short Course on Medicinal Chemistry -A Matter of Time; A Kinetic Perspective on Drug-Target Interactions
In 2009, EFMC launched a series of short courses aimed to favour cultural and scientific growth of the medicinal chemistry community and organised with affordable fees for participation.
The 13th EFMC Short Course on Medicinal Chemistry will provide a firm conceptual framework for the study of target binding kinetics. The focus of this course will be centred on all aspects of target binding kinetics, where renowned international experts in the field will highlight the concept and development of different kinetic binding assays, specific protein target interactions, impact of drug rebinding and PK/PD modelling. Moreover, an industrial view on the importance, value and positioning of binding kinetics in drug discovery projects will be given. For this purpose, tutorials and real life examples will assist the participants in the short course to grasp not only a basic understanding but also to bring home inspiring case studies from both an academic and industrial perspective.
ACSMEDI-EFMC Medicinal Chemistry Frontiers
ACSMEDI-EFMC Medicinal Chemistry Frontiers is the sixth in the series initiated in Siena, Italy in 2007 and continued in Barcelona, Spain in 2009, Stockholm, Sweden in 2011, San Francisco, CA in 2013 and Antwerp, Belgium in 2015. The meeting is co-organized by the EFMC and the American Chemical Society Division of Medicinal Chemistry. It intends to bring together scientists working in medicinal chemistry in order to share new and exciting results and participants are encouraged to bring poster presentations. Philadelphia provides a picturesque backdrop for this exciting conference, and we know you will have a scientifically rewarding and enjoyable stay.
Frontiers 2017 will take place at the Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown Hotel, in close proximity to historic Philadelphia, the Liberty Bell, the Reading Terminal Market and the Franklin Institute, making it an ideal location to enjoy the city, and to experience the latest research in medicinal chemistry.
EFMC International Symposium on Advances in Synthetic and Medicinal Chemistry (EFMC-ASMC'17)
The European Federation for Medicinal Chemistry (EFMC), the Medicinal Chemistry Section of the Austrian Chemical Society (GÖCH) and ChemBridge Corporation ware jointly organising the 7th edition of the EFMC International Symposium on Advances in Synthetic and Medicinal Chemistry (EFMC-ASMC’17). This event is planned in the series which started in Moscow in 2004 (ASCMC'04 and ASMC'13), followed by St. Peterburg (ASMC'07 and ASMC'11), Kiev (ASMC'09) and the latest one in Rehovot, Israel (ASMC'15).

This symposium will bring together chemists from industry, academia and start-up companies from around the world and is focused on the most recent advances in new synthetic methodologies, total synthesis, fluorination approaches, bioisosteres and building blocks, chemical biology, medicinal chemistry, drug discovery and development leading to new or improved methods for the synthesis of pharmaceuticals

Beyond key lectures in synthetic and fluorination chemistry, as well as recent case studies in medicinal chemistry and drug discovery, the symposium aims at bridging the range from ‘small molecules’ to ‘large molecules’ including carbohydrates, natural products, novel protein scaffolds and genes; it is expected to attract experts in synthetic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, total synthesis, catalysis, drug discovery, molecular imaging, and chemical development.

EFMC Young Medicinal Chemist Symposium (EFMC-YMCS 2017)

After a succesful first edition organised in Lisbon in September 2014, two further EFMC-YMCS meetings have been organised in Antwerp (2015) and Manchester (2016). The fourth edition will be organised in connection with EFMC-ASMC’17, and will take place in Vienna (Austria) on August 31 - September 1, 2017.

This short symposium has the aim of:

  • Creating a network of young European investigators in Medicinal Chemistry

  • Stimulating young European investigators in Medicinal Chemistry to share their scientific work with peers and inspiring leaders in the field

  • Creating competition and excellence in Medicinal Chemistry within Europe by selecting the European Champion in Medicinal Chemistry
