DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY

EQUITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

The Department of Chemistry is offering a small number of prestigious

scholarships in its postgraduate programme for 2011. The Equity

Development Programme at UCT aims at increasing the pool from which

academic staff is drawn.

We are seeking well-qualified black students, with excellent academic

credentials, who are citizens of South Africa or SADC (1 MSc position) for the

following:

MSc in Chemistry (2 years)

PhD in Chemistry (3 years)

The PhD scholarship includes the possibility of a short period of research at

an overseas institution.

These are comprehensive scholarships which will cover the major part of fees,

living expenses and a student stipend.

The Chemistry Department has the following research focus areas:

Transition Metal Chemistry Synthetic and Medicinal Chemistry

Supramolecular Chemistry Biophysical and Structural Chemistry.

Applications should include: a CV, certified copies of academic transcript/s

and the names and contact details (including e-mail) of two contactable

referees. Candidates should indicate the field of Chemistry they wish to

study.
